Screening and early disease detection
Early detection
We are committed to supporting healthcare systems in improving screening and early disease detection through innovative digital solutions.
The growing shortage of healthcare professionals, financial constraints and rising cases of chronic conditions highlight the limits of traditional methods.1,2 Early detection is vital to addressing the rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs), yet screening and early disease detection programs face challenges like limited accessibility and low patient adherence, making it essential to innovate and improve these efforts.
Burden of NCDs: Around 41 million people die each year from noncommunicable diseases, which is equivalent to 74% of all deaths globally1
Workforce shortage: 10 million healthcare worker shortage by 20302
Lack of physician time: 14.1 hours/day required from primary care providers (PCPs) to provide preventive care recommended by US guideline3
Low adherence to screening programs: Fewer than 70% of individuals aged 50–75 are taking part in colorectal cancer screening in the US4
We address these challenges with innovative digital solutions.
Leverage AI to empower clinicians with accurate and timely decision-making tools.
Digital platforms ensure broader access to screening, reaching more patients effectively.
Accelerate diagnosis with algorithms enabling early disease detection and timely interventions.
Streamline processes to improve resource management and reduce system costs.
Digital solutions and AI technology address today’s healthcare challenges by empowering clinicians to make informed decisions and deliver effective patient care. Innovative digital solutions can also play a pivotal role in nationwide screening programs, helping program managers gain greater transparency. At Roche, we are committed to equipping healthcare systems and professionals with the right tools. Learn more below about examples of navify solutions impacting patient care today.
navify® Algorithm Suite is a library of medical algorithms where users access a growing collection of clinically validated algorithms to help support their process for clinical decision-making. Similar to an app store, navify Algorithm Suite provides a convenient single location to find algorithms from Roche and third parties, helping facilitate integration and improve data security.
The clinical workflow was streamlined from 10 manual steps to just 1 step, decreasing potential for error.5
The integration of navify Algorithm Suite with laboratory systems such as LIS (laboratory information system) reduces manual steps through automation. The user no longer needs to take aliquots from the sample, assign them to a rack, analyze them separately and enter the results. The implementation of navify Algorithms, GAAD with navify Algorithm Suite saves 3–4 minutes per case for ~40 cases per day per reports from the lab director in a semi-structured interview.5
Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, an established University Hospital in Hannover, Germany, is committed to utilizing the combined navify Algorithms, GAAD and navify Algorithm Suite to capture the clinical benefits of GAAD algorithm for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). “GAAD algorithm is like a digital parameter that runs in routine as a normal laboratory value – now we have no additional effort,” lab director Prof. Dr. Ralf Lichtinghagen says.5
Integration through navify Algorithm Suite increases data security and standardizes our IVDR-compliant processes.
Explore how navify Cervical Screening supports screening through advanced digital tools. A detailed health and economic impact model highlights the benefits of improved adherence to screening guidelines, including reduced healthcare costs, streamlined workflows and enhanced patient engagement. Learn how adopting navify Cervical Screening can help reduce the global burden of cervical cancer and support the WHO’s elimination goals.6
navify Cervical Screening transforms cervical cancer screening from opportunistic methods into organized, systematic programs. In the recent case study, it enhanced guideline adherence, reduced under and over-testing and optimized healthcare resources.6 Key components include:
Patient Tracker: Standardize care and potentially act up to 15x faster on abnormal results6
Population Analytics: Monitor performance, identify gaps and optimize resource use for better program management
