Situation

Challenge

Like other large hospital laboratories, Centro Médico ABC experienced ongoing challenges in inventory management, including regular stock outs, expired tests and rush orders. A time consuming manual inventory process resulted in higher costs from over-purchasing and later needing to dispose of the expired products and repurchase them. Hospital leadership saw lots of room for improvement and set out to look for solutions, leading them to navify Inventory.

Solution

Easier inventory management

Of the multiple inventory management tools available, Centro Médico ABC selected navify Inventory for its ease of use, simple installation and minimum hardware requirements and for its integrated portable handheld scanners. In addition, because it requires almost no training, associated labor costs were minimal.

The handheld device enables staff members to track all product movements and provides order suggestions based on specified attributes, such as quantity, minimum/maximum values and open orders/deliveries. Another appealing feature is that the scanner can read barcodes of other vendors – not just Roche – reducing time consuming and error prone manual inventory management.

navify Inventory provided us with assurance of test availability, despite the dynamic demand for tests, which improved our service and the customer experience, with the guarantee of timely results.

Results

Improved inventory workflow

Implementing version 1.4.0 of navify Inventory delivered significant improvements in inventory workflow and financials. Costs resulting from stock outs and expired tests fell by 97% year-over-year compared to the 12-month period prior to solution implementation1. In addition, gross profit from hospital testing services (i.e., sales minus total material costs of products needed to perform testing) increased by 11%1. Since version 1.4.0, newly added features further enable offline work capabilities, the ability to link with enterprise resource planning software, and automated third-party product re-ordering.

Conclusion: 100% digitalization

Encouraged by these outstanding results, Centro Médico ABC decided to undergo a full digital transformation with the goals of further simplifying processes, reducing expenses and boosting profit. In May 2022, Centro Médico ABC shared that “campus ABC Santa Fe has reached 100% digitization and is now operating completely paperless and ABC Observatorio is on its way there, at 90%.

We spend less time searching for products. With navify Inventory, we know where everything is.
